My husband was diagnosed with Celiac disease in October 2010 by having an upper GI Endoscopy test.
Celiac disease is an autoimmune digestive disease that damages the villi of the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. One in 133 Americans have celiac disease.
The only treatment for Celiac disease is a lifelong 100% gluten-free diet, eating gluten, even small amounts can damage the intestine.
By the time my husband was diagnosed he was anemic, and in the early stages of osteopenia (bone thinning that leads to osteoporosis). He had other symptoms along the way but we didn’t see the warning signs because there are more than 300 symptoms of celiac disease. You may have several symptoms or none at all. Now he is on a daily vitamin regimen, has an injection every two weeks for bone thinning and we live a gluten free life.

Bloating or Gas, Itchy Skin Rash, Delayed Growth, Headaches, Diarrhea, Tingling/Numbness, Poor Weight Gain, Depression, Constipation, Pale Mouth Sores, Thin Bones, Irritability, Fatigue, Joint Pain, Infertility and Discolored Teeth.

Autism, Depression, Dermatitis, Hepertiformis, Down Syndrome, Infertility, Intestinal Cancer, Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Liver Disease, Migraines, Osteoporosis/Osteopenia, Peripheral Neuropathy, Sjogren’s Disease, Thyroid Disease, Turner Syndrome, Type 1 Diabetes and Williams Syndrome.
